Linocut on Japanese paper / 12 x 12 in / edition of 40 / Available

If one is prone to discouragement, sometimes it seems that you go about your business while the world burns. Climate change. Wars. Divisions. Here the artist’s working relationship with the model is so strong that no inferno can impede them.

Grief

Linocut Hand-pulled print on Japanese paper / 12 x 10 in / limited edition / Available

Sorrow comes to all of us. There is beauty in the care that our loved ones show in attending to us in the sorrow. Inspired by our own sorrow at recent deaths, and of course, recent wars.

Mourning

Linoleum cut on hand-made mulberry paper / 5 x 4 inches / limited edition / Available

In the past year it was our family’s turn to be exposed to sorrow and loss. I imagined my Nymphs, usually so playful and feisty, and how they would give solace to one another. I wondered about clothing them, about the nudity. But a visit to Moroccan hammam, where the women left their clothes in a locker to wash and restore their spirits in the beautiful waters convinced me that the nudity was right. The small size, however, bothered me. I wanted to try them at a bigger size, and so I made Grief.

Invasion

Linoprint on Kozo Paper / 18x18 in / Available from the artist

When on Feb. 24 Putin’s army invaded Ukraine, we had Ukrainian artists arriving as guests in our home. My point of view after that changed abruptly. I became extremely aware that as I brushed my teeth, wrote thank you notes or planned my day, elsewhere tanks were rolling through villages, destroying people’s lives. The young woman is indifferent as a coping strategy. The dog displays her concerns.

Sale of the first three prints I will give to Ukrainian refugees trying to settle in my town.

Linoleum Print on Handmade Paper / 12 in x 12 in / Cutter & Cutter Fine Art

There was once a real midnight swim in a Swiss lake under a bright moon. Not pictured here are the pair of swans who observed the dip. The nocturnal landscape was so beautiful that I wanted to keep going forward forever.

Linocut on paper / 12x12 in / Limited Edition of 40 prints

Watching the news, a person could think that every day we live our lives, the apocalypse is beginning: melting ice caps, rising seas, species disappearing, wars and famine…What does one do in the face of perceived disaster? I am unsure of the answer, but I’m thinking about it. So is she. Hand-pulled prints on kozo paper from Japan.

Linoleum print on handmade Japanese and Nepales papers / 7.25 x 10.75 inches / limited edition of 40 / Cutter & Cutter Fine Art

Since 1994 I've been finding culinary treasure at Paola and Alessandro's Florence, Italy delicatessen, Baroni Alimentari. Grana Padano, ricotta de pecora, soprasotta salami, tuscan honey with white truffles... At their counter I first ate mortadello, bresaola and real balsamic vinegar. This is for all people the world over who enjoy the hunt for flavor.

A few time each year I attend a performance at the Real Escuela in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. I abstracted this stallion's image, still grey with youth, from a young Andalusian at the Royal School.
