About

Seeking spirit and meaning in beautifully crafted images

I began studying art at the age of seventeen, and have been a professional artist twenty five years. Preparations for this career included the Art Department of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Otis Parsons Art Institute Los Angeles and an apprenticeship with California artist Michael Newberry. The most exotic and formative portion of my training occurred at the Russian Academy of Fine Art in St. Petersburg, Russia, also known as the Repin Institute, where I was the only American to study during the Soviet period and the second American ever, preceded by James Whistler.

I am passionate about oils, but also pastels and linoleum cuts. Dividing my year between Andalusian Spain and the American South inspires me, as well as the creative interchange with the artists, architects, and artisans in my family and community.  I'm from Tennessee but consider myself a citizen of the planet. My son, husband and a nephew are also artists.
